Setting

Your character has volunteered for Project Unity.

In the future, humans and humanoids play a part in genetically birthing several different alien species, one of which has just managed to perfect inter-dimensional travel. This species, admittedly, is millennia behind the technology of their more advanced alien brethren, and are viewed as primitive by the rest of the universe. They’ve done all they can to expand their technological horizons but find themselves at a wall, making them vulnerable in the eyes of a more intelligent, and possibly aggressive, rival species.

Because of this, they’ve decided to use their newly found inter-dimensional technology to help their ancestors in need. By providing their forefathers and foremothers with a safe and comfortable environment that encourages their flourish and survival, they are guaranteeing themselves a quicker evolutionary advancement that can put them on par with the rest of the universe.

They’ve picked humanoids from all across the multiverse with the help of some ancestral investigation, visiting them in the way they would feel most comfortable whether that be through dreams, in the form of another human, or via primitive human technology. They provide the volunteers with a safe and warm environment in an abandoned town on a secluded island that they can rebuild from the ground up, while also giving them the opportunity to visit other worlds and universes. The purpose of these visits is to bring back different technologies and/or cultural items that may help the volunteers advance at a faster rate than they could in a world riddled with war and death. As a nod toward their roots, the new camaraderie with their ancestors, and a basic lack of understanding for human language, the species introduces and refers to themselves as the ‘Also Humans’.

It has been explained to your character that they are not obligated to take a part in Project Unity. They can return whenever they wish, if at all, to the same point that they were taken from, guaranteeing an uninterrupted timeline.

Since rebuilding the town is a large part of this game mechanic, each project has been broken down into 'man hours', using basic construction guidelines. Although the man hours do not change, the amount of time to complete a project can. For example, it would take one man more time to complete 1,000 man hours than it would take four men. That would mean that each man would be working for 250 man hours, and if they were working 8 hour days, it would take them approximately 31 days to complete the project, or roughly one month if they were working every day. Characters will obviously need materials to complete these projects. More about that can be found on the Rewards page and the Construction page.

Man hours will also vary depending on the volunteers. Clark Kent would complete a project faster than Bruce Wayne (sorry, Batman) and this will be taken into consideration by the mods once a project is started. Because of this, the finished product time will vary on a case to case basis, which the players and mods can discuss. Once a project is begun it must be reported to the mods, and we will keep track of active projects and give a date of when the project will be finished. These projects cannot be handwaved, but you are not expected to write/play out every project your character is involved in. They will still have full access to the hub, but logically if they are in a log or action tag it should take place before or after the work day starts. Or they can take the day off. If that is the case, it will be reflected in the completion time unless they get someone of equal or greater ability to cover for them.

HOTEL

The original location where people wake up is the largest that needs renovation in the town. This comes out to 10,080 man hours. Keep in mind, this is to restore the entire hotel. The volunteers can prioritize which parts of the hotel should be restored first. They may find it more useful to restore the kitchen before they restore the ballroom. For the restoration, volunteers will need:

  • Lumber
  • Window Insulation
  • Windows
  • Wallpaper
  • Paint
  • Paint Accessories (Tape, Rollers, etc.)
  • Various Appliances (Kitchen)
  • Light Fixtures
  • Bedding
  • Mattresses
  • Doors
  • Pipes
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Roofing supplies

TOWN BUILDINGS

The various buildings around town all need restoration to be functional, and each large building will take roughly 1,680. Small buildings, such as the diner and post office, will take 1,120 man hours. Note that homes are considered as large buildings. For the restoration projects, volunteers will need:

  • Lumber (Shelving)
  • Window Insulation
  • Windows
  • Tiles
  • Paint
  • Wallpaper
  • Coolant for Refrigeration System
  • Roofing Supplies
  • Wall insulation
  • Pipes
  • Florescent Light Bulbs
