WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CHARACTER ARRIVES?
Your character is going to wake up in a hotel room. The hotel itself is run down with parts that are destroyed, but still provides basic shelter from the elements. The letter that they will find is in the premise, and it will be placed beside a watch that can be used to access the Hub, or the networking system of the game. The letter and watch are now the only belongings that your character owns. More information about the hotel and town can be found on the Setting page.
DOES THE GAME MOVE IN REAL TIME?
Yes. One real day is equal to one game day.
MY CHARACTER IS EVIL.
Cool story, bro. Due to the setting of this game, though, your character probably won’t be a good fit. The Also Humans won’t be picking evil people to help build a society and visit other worlds, that wouldn’t make much sense at all.
MY CHARACTER IS A VAMPIRE/WEREWOLF/OTHER THAT NEEDS SPECIAL TREATMENT.
The mods will work with you to make sure that the Also Humans work with your character to give them everything that they need. As of now, the first player with a certain character type can set the scene for how the game works.
For example, Remus Lupin turns into a werewolf every full moon. After speaking with the player, the moon cycle has not changed but the Also Humans provide Remus with a Wolfsbane Potion that keeps his mind clear during his changes without any need for using the reward system. This is now game canon. If you are thinking of playing a werewolf and this does not work for you, feel free to reach out to us and we'll work with you to see what can be changed in order to make the game work for everyone.
WHO ARE THE ONES WHO CALL THEMSELVES ‘ALSO HUMANS’?
The Also Humans are an advanced alien species that evolved from the human race over the course of a few billion years. They’ve chosen the characters in the game because they ultimately believe that they will be able to help build a community and in turn, quicken the evolutionary process to make the Also Humans more advanced in their own time. A more detailed explanation can be found on the Setting page.
It’s important to note that in the view of other alien species of their time, the Also Humans are quite primitive. It is because of their ‘primitive’ nature that they have managed to retain qualities such as empathy and kindness, which they hope to retain by choosing only ancestors with good intent. They’re learning how to communicate with humans during the process of this game, so there’s going to be a cultural wall that they’re going to struggle to get past. Try to be patient with them, they're really bad at communicating.
HOW DOES MY CHARACTER GET TO OTHER WORLDS?
A portal will open somewhere in town, and the Also Humans will announce to the volunteers where that portal opens. It is not mandatory for your character to visit this new world, but it is strongly advised that they do so. The more volunteers that visit other worlds, the better chance they have to find something that can better their society.
MY CHARACTER WANTS TO STAY IN THE FANTASY WORLD THEY’RE VISITING.
Unfortunately, the Also Humans can’t allow any influence in other universes past the influence that takes place in their approved time period. They’ll move your character back to town when the portal is ready to close whether they want to go back or not.
HOW WILL THE VOLUNTEERS KNOW WHAT TO BRING BACK FROM THE FANTASY WORLD?
The entire point of the volunteers going to other worlds is for them to find something in that world that can better their community. This advancement can range from technological to medical to religious and everything in between. After a new plot is announced in the OOC, the mods will post a poll a week before the plot takes place with several different options as to what can be brought back. The players will vote on what they think would be most beneficial, but we always encourage IC discussion about the possibilities as well!
CAN MY CHARACTER GO HOME?
Of course. Your character can return home to the same point of time that they left whenever they please. Their arrival is completely voluntary. If you decide to send your character home, it is the equivalent of dropping said character. When characters are dropped it can be assumed that they decided to go home, and if they return via a different player it can easily be excused as a temporary leave. Be sure to go over with players who may have existing or past lines with a character that has been dropped in the past.
I CAN’T SEE MY CHARACTER VOLUNTEERING FOR PROJECT UNITY.
We understand that some characters still may be uncomfortable with volunteering for the project, but if this is the case then this game may not be a good fit for your character in question. It revolves around the fact that all characters are there willingly.
HOW DOES REBUILDING THE TOWN WORK?
There is a system to rebuilding the town that has been put in place so it doesn't happen, literally, overnight. It's going to take the characters a long time to rebuild everything, and a basic guide can be found in the Setting. All work hours are real time and are estimated with plain-old normal non-super humans in mind. That being said, if someone who has a special ability that would expedite the building process (such as super speed, super strength, etc.) the mods will adjust the time period of when the project should be finished. The suggested buildings on the setting page are just that; suggestions. You are more than welcome to have your character suggest building something not listed, which will be agreed upon by the in game community.
When a project is started, the mods should be notified and it will be marked down on the Construction page, along with the date it started and the date that it should be finished. The amount of time that the project will take will vary with the amount of people working on the project, the abilities of said people, and other factors. If your character is planning on helping with a project or starting a new one, those conversations should take place in game whether it be in a log or on the hub. If there is no IC interaction about the project being planned or started, it will not be added onto the construction page. This is to avoid confusion and instances of us being notified that a project was started three months ago and should be done by now despite us never being in the loop. Handwaving the several hours that your character is spending on the project is fine, but handwaving the project planning or brainstorming is not.
There are going to be certain projects that cannot be completed without the right materials, but those materials can be purchased by utilizing the Rewards system.
CAN I SUGGEST A WORLD FOR THE VOLUNTEERS TO VISIT?
Please do! We’re completely open to suggestions.
